Hyderabad: Government Employee Loses ₹3.92 Lakh in Malicious APK Bank Fraud

Hyderabad – A 59-year-old government employee in Hyderabad has fallen victim to a cyber fraud, losing approximately ₹3.92 lakh after installing a malicious APK file. The scammer, posing as a relationship manager from a private bank, allegedly orchestrated the deception.

According to reports, the fraudster contacted the complainant, claiming there was an error in the victim’s address and subsequently requested personal details. Upon activation of the malicious APK file, the substantial amount was fraudulently debited from the victim’s bank account.

Cybercrime authorities have issued a stern warning to the public, urging citizens to refrain from sharing personal data or installing unknown applications received via messages. Officials emphasized, “Banks never send APK files or request Know Your Customer (KYC) updates through third-party links.”
